In the role of Archangel, Michael is chief of the angels and or highest messenger…it’s interesting to discover that he is also patron saint of the Ukraine, which is why the National Bank of the Ukraine has released a series of, to date, seven Silver Archangel Michael coins.

The coin’s obverse feature is that of Michael, in glorious armor, crowned in a halo of light, atop a cloud, with sword in hand, all portrayed with the utmost skill and down to the finest detail. The image is encapsulated by a line of verse by a famed poet from the Ukraine, it reads: ‘for us and the souls of righteous men, the Archangel Michael’s strength.’

The reverse feature is that of the simplistic and beautiful Ukrainian coat of arms, along with the coin’s release year, inside an embellished hexagonal frame. Outside the hexagon, ‘National Bank of Ukraine,’ along with its symbol or Academy’s logo; text on this coin is all displayed in Ukrainian.
